Specialist Services
Our team of optometrists are all involved in providing extended NHS services, including:
MECS (minor eye conditions scheme) – we offer emergency appointments for patients with sudden onset symptoms, such as flashes and floaters or red eye, and also for those with chronic symptoms, such as gritty, sore eyes or dry eyes
Glaucoma Referral Refinement – we perform contact tonometry (pressure test) and extended visual field testing, using the same instruments as the hospital, to ensure only appropriate referrals are sent on to see an ophthalmologist
Post-op Follow-up for Cataract surgery – we are part of a pilot scheme, offering the follow-up appointments for patients who have had a cataract removed at Rowley Hall Hospital
Myopia Management
Myopia, often known as Short Sightedness, is dramatically on the rise around the world.
Speak to your optometrist today if your child:
- Is already short-sighted.
- Is under 16 years old.
- Is a student in full-time study.
- Spends less than 1.5 hours outside every day.
- Spends more than 2 hours reading or using handheld devices (outside of school hours).
- Has one or more parents with Myopia (though even with neither parent suffering myopia, it still affects 1 in 4 people!).
If any of the above applies to you, or if you just want to be certain you’re taking the very best care of your child’s eyes, we advise speaking to your optometrist to investigate the best course of action to help avoid or reduce the severity of myopia. More Information
Dry Eye Assessments
“The good news is that after a thorough investigation, most people find that dry eye is relatively easy to manage.”
During a dry eye assessment, we will carefully consider your own symptoms, health history and environment. We will then undertake a specialist examination of your eyes and tears, and once we have determined the causes of your discomfort, we will recommend the best way to alleviate your symptoms and ensure that you leave knowing exactly how to treat your particular condition with a bespoke care plan.
We will then invite you to return for follow-up appointments to fine tune your treatment. This is a private fee service and is not covered by the NHS. Ask for a dry eye clinic appointment at reception. More Information
NHS Sight Tests
Every NHS sight test is tailor-made depending on your need. As well as an eye health check, a sight test might detect signs of underlying general health conditions, such as diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Everyone should have a sight test every two years, or more often if your optometrist recommends it.
